Diabetes News and Grands...

I am now the proud user of a Medtronic Insulin Pump. On Wednesday, 9-28-11 was my 1st day of using it. It is so wonderful!!! I have a few blogger friends that use them, and love them. I have wanted one for quite a while, but without insurance there was no way. I am on Medicare now, and in order for Medicare to pay for one, you have to go thru a lot of testing, etc. Your lab work has to prove that your pancreas is not producing insulin. DUH! I could have told them that 38 yrs ago. For some reason, my pancreas decided to die on me. Maybe a virus? We don't know. No one else in my family has diabetes. Well, my grand daddy did, but his was adult onset and type 2.
Here is a pic of my pump and me, well my chubby belly.. LOL

I am praying this makes a big difference in my diabetes health. Instead of having to give myself doses of insulin all the time, my insulin is a continual drip all day and night. I have to change the site, tubing etc, ever 3 days, instead of the 5+ shots a day. When I take my blood sugars, the reading goes directly into my pump. I do not have to sit with a calculator to figure out my insulin amount, the pump figures that for me!

Other news.. We still do not have a answer on whether we will be able to keep our home. Please continue to pray on that. The loan officer told David last night, we may know something this next week. Keep your fingers crossed! I know God already has plans for whatever happens. I trust and put my faith in him.

Fall arrived very quickly in Ohio. One week it was HOT, next week cool, and cold! We are under a frost advisory tonight. Low 30's for tonight. I guess my hanging flower pots will be toast after tonight. Guess it's that time of year, but I am not ready, and do not like it. I will take 95 any day to cold weather. But it is football season, and I love college football. On Saturday's, I am mostly watching either, SC Gamecocks, Michigan Wolverines, or a few others. I live in Ohio, but do not cheer for Ohio State. UCK!!! My heart will always belong to the Gamecocks!!

I am sorry about not updating more often. That black hole has been eating me up! My hands are not working right yet. The physical Therapy people have put me on hold, as I am not getting better, and my left hand is getting worse! I have to go see the hand surgeon to see what is up.

I was also diagnosed with glaucoma and I am now on drops for that. I use 2 different drops. They still are having problems finding out what is causing my left eye lack of vision. there is some sort of nerve and muscle problems with it. It does not react to light, like a normal eye does. They had thought MS, but my MRI doesn't show it but it has not been ruled out. All this is the reason for the black hole.

I continue to read your blogs, and know y'all are also having problems. Y'all are in my daily thoughts and prayers. I love you all!!!

I will end this with a few pics of the grands. That will make me smile for sure, and hope it does you too!!!

That insulin pump is fantastic! Must be way better than having to inject yourself so often.

You sure do have some precious darlings!!!

So glad you were able to get the pump. I just started on Medicare 9/1. I had insurance from the military so it just dropped to secondary. Sounds like this will work much better for you :)

You update when you feel like it. We're all still here. Will keep you and David in my prayers hon!!

Honey I am so very happy that you got a insulin pump. It should really make all the difference in the world for your controlling your diabetes.
My oldest son Chad has had it now since he was 13 and he will be 41 in a few months. He got his about six months ago and truly likes having it.
He talked my sweet Kaci into getting her one so she is counting the days for that to happen.
I hope everything works out with your house loan. I will of course pray for you.
Love all the pictures of your beautiful grandbabies.
When you feel better be a Blogazine guest for me and tell her every one about your new pump.
Love ya
Maggie

Oh goodness, I am so slow to stop by and say hello. Hope you are feeling better.
Our fall has been a little warm, cool, cold and hot again. Not sure it knows what it wants.
Best of luck with your hands. My thoughts and prayers are with you always.
Much love,
Susan
